On October 4, 1997, Kimberly and Steve celebrated the birth of their son, Andrew. Ten days later, Kimberly suffered a massive stroke. She was flown by AirCare to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Doctors from The Mayfield Clinic performed three major surgeries over the next 24 hours. Kim's life was saved, but she remains in a non-cognitive state, unable to communicate or perform any daily life activities.
